Ponyboy and Johnny react quickly to the fire and the kids inside the church.

Tell me about a time you reacted quickly to something.  Basically, tell me about a time you did not think, you just went with your gut feeling!

  1. I do this quite often. For example one time I was doing a math test, and I guess I wasn't thinking straight and instead of putting my answer as -2, I just put 2. now I think I have learnt my lesson to always pay attention to every single detail on any sort of test. When I got that test back, I would have gotten 100% although I made that one mistake which messed it all up. ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION!

  2. I have been in that sort of situation many times, but the one that came to mind was this one. I was at the park with some friends around the neighbourhood, when we noticed a neighbours dog lying in the sand without an owner, since we knew who the dog belonged to, we felt the need to bring him back to his owner. Im really happy that I stuck to my gut and brought him back rather then leaving him there alone.

    1. That's such a nice thing to do! I'm sure the owner was very thankful for giving their dog back.

  3. I remember when I had to face a very scary situation and I needed to make a quick decision. I was spending the day at my little cousins' house when we decided to go swimming in the pool. They were very beginner swimmers and they decided without me supervising to jump in the deep end. My first reaction was to quickly swim over and help them and that was exactly what I did! One by one I took them out of the pool, they were both fine but they were in a lot of shock! Im really glad I stuck to my instincts!

  4. One time, I was at the parc with a friend. We were both really comfortable at the parc because it was close to our house and we've been there plenty of times. When we decided to head back home, this man started to talk to us in a inappropriate way. Right away I felt super uncomfortable and didn't know what to do, I was extremely scared. I decided to run as fast as I can, holding my friends hand. I am really glad with my decision and wouldn't have done it any other way. I also learnt a valuable lesson which is to never go somewhere alone.

  5. I was at my grand-parents house and my sister and I were playing ring-around the Rosie and I let my sister go and I heard a big POP! At that moment I knew that something was wrong. So right away, without doing anything, I called my dad. He knew that something was wrong. At that point my sister was on the ground crying and my mom was dialling 911. It turns out that when let go of my sister, she fell on the ground and that's what broke her collarbone. She ended up being in a cast for 6 weeks all because of me.

    1. It’s great that you didn’t become all scared that your sister was on the ground crying! Good job on calling your dad also! I would’ve been extremely scared if this happened to my brother too! I probably would’ve been the one on the floor crying at that point!!! Your blog is really interesting!

  6. I was at home one day in the summer when a wasp came in from the screen door. I am terrified of wasps and bees and I always start running when one comes close to me. I was coming into the family room when I saw this small thing buzz through. The first instinct I had was to run and take my hamster with me. I was so scared he was going to get into his cage. I reacted so fast I didn’t even think for a second. Then my sister and I put him in our kitchen while my parents eventually killed the wasp which relieved me so much.

  7. A time I reacted quickly, was once when my friend and I were baking cupcakes. We were having a really fun time, but also were fooling around a little. We kept on cracking jokes and laughing non- stop! Though by mistake my friend pushed the glass measuring cup off the counter and it almost shattered to pieces! Though luckily I was able to react quickly and I caught it! I was actually really surprised because my reflexes aren't the best. My friend and I were so lucky, because we were sure her mom would never let us bake there again if the measuring cup broke.

  8. Well it's happened a couple of times but the one that is pretty big comes to mind when I think of gut feelings. So it was about 3 years ago, the older groups at my day camp went to this beach for the day. Luckily I was in those groups so I go to go. So did my sister and one of my best friends. Everything was going swimmingly, the weather was nice and no one got glass in their feet. Towards the end of the field trip we were allowed to go on one of the contraptions the people at the beach made. They called it "the Tarzan". Most of the people used the rope, including myself, but for one of her last jumps my friend just jumped off the platform. Your supposed to go feet first but she ended up belly flopping and she hit the water hard. I jumped just before her and my sister was a couple of people behind. My sister looked and than jumped after my friend to help her. I went back in the water to do the same. y sister and I helped my friend onto the sand and I rushed to go get some help. In the end my friend was dazed winded and shocked. If we hadn't been there to help her she might have drowned after hitting the water and getting winded. My sister and I acted on a gut feeling and helped our friend. I didn't even realise what I was doing until after it happened. I'm happy I did it though and I would do it for anyone that was in the same situation.

  9. One time when I just reacted and didn't even think was when I was biking around the park with my friend, we saw a car that was parked right where we were and the man was always in the car. He didn't move. At first, my friend and I didn't even notice the car but soon enough we found out that something wasn't right. We left the park but then the car started to follow us and then it stopped and opened the windows. And that's when we "ran" on our bikes and when we made it back to my house and we locked the doors.

  10. It all happened a few years back, we were all playing football outside. We were all having a good time throwing each other to the ground, throwing long throws to each other, throwing cheap hits etc. So we were all taking a break from our game of football, and from out of nowhere, my friend decided to hit my friend from behind, as I see him running towards him, I tell him to get out of the way and luckily he didn't get hit. It's kind of a weird story but that doesn't matter

  11. I have never really went with my gut feeling because I have never been in a situation where I have had to. I think the only time I really went with my guts was when my skirt caught on fire in a party. I was at a party with my family, and in our culture there is a custom where we have to take pictures with the people who organized the party. Hence, we were all in line to take a picture with the girl whose party it was and next to the me was a circle of candles half lit, half unlit. I was next to a candle that was lit. I turned around and started talking with Madurra and after awhile, it started to get real hot. I lifted my skirt up a little and after a few minutes, I looked down why my legs felt like they were burning. My skirt was on fire! I didn't know what to do! Madurra was startled as well! I turned around and tapped my father on the back. I showed it to him and he put out the fire for me in a second! He saved my life! My life was in danger and he saved me. I will never forget those moments. That was a time where I reacted quickly.

  12. I time I had a quick reaction was a couple years ago when I was about 10. I was biking around my neighbourhood and when I was about to turn a corner there was a couple of guys walking down the road. I almost hit them but I swerved out of the way just in time. I ended up crashing my bike into the sidewalk and was thrown off and fell onto the grass. My butt hurt a bit but luckily I wasn't hurt to bad and my bike had flipped over and hit the ground hard.

  13. One day I was running a little late for school. I was not really thinking too carefully. When I got dressed I just put something on quickly. I put on a normal t-shirt and jeans, but when I got to school everyone was looking at me. At first I just thought that it was because I was late, but it wasn't. I found out a bit later on that I was wearing my t-shirt inside out AND backwards. I was so embarressed after. I ran to the washroom to fix it. Now every night before I go to bed, I pick out my outfit for the next day. This way I now what and how I will be wearing my clothing.

  14. I’ve never really had a gut feeling before. However, I get tons of ‘gut feelings’ while playing quiz games/trivia quizzes! Whenever I don’t know the answer to a question I randomly go with my gut feeling and press the answer my ‘gut’ is telling me! Their was this one time, where I literally had no idea to what the answer to the question was. I randomly placed my finger on the answer that I thought was right, and I got it correct! Maybe that seems like a guess, but this is the closest I’ve ever had to a gut feeling!

  15. A time where I reacted quickly would have to be in 2013 when I was chasing after a tour bus around the Sheraton hotel. Inside, was 5 Seconds of Summer, the opening act of One Direction on their tour. They were leaving their hotel and going to their sound check. My sister, my two friends and I wanted to get a glance at them so without hesitation, we quickly started running after the tour bus! We ran in a complete circle for about four minutes! It was so much fun and a great experience, even though we found out in the end they weren’t even in the tour bus at that time!

  16. I think my mom and me just have some sort of connection. My family is always late or forgetting something and this day it was me. I was talking to my mom about a birthday party I was going to that day when she asked me if I got a birthday present yet. Then I jump up and my mom’s eyes lite up and without saying a word we ran to the car to go strait to “Toys R Us”. I was a little late for the party but my friend did like the improvised gift I got him.

  17. The most memorable moment that I had to react really fast was during this summer. Allegro tripped right before a jump and she fell onto the jump. I do not think I could have gotten off of her as fast as I could. The first thing I did was check her legs and make sure she was ok, thankfully she was she just tripped before the jump. That was the fastest I have ever reacted to something in my life. Thankfully we were both ok and we jumped the jump after without a problem.

  18. One time I had to react quickly was when I was playing hockey. There was a race in between me and a player on the other team. I won the race but just before I went into the corner I put my head up to see if anyone else was coming. Luckily I put my head up or another guy from the other team would have skated right into me. To get away from him I pocked the puck past him and skated around him to make a pass to my teamate.

  20. The time I remember I had a reaction without thinking would be about two years ago . In my elementary we use to have the scariest haunted house. So two years ago I was going in the haunted; I was terrified. My friend had to drag me through the whole thing. So as we were walking there was a cage with what seemed like a human size doll but was an actually humane. As I walked by the “doll” it jumps out of its cage and grabs me. So I suddenly I scream as loud as I can and kick him (several times until he let go)in the legs. Then I recognised who it was, it was one of our school teacher. That is one time I reacted quick without thinking.

  21. The one time I ever had a gut feeling was when I was playing soccer indoors and there was this little kid that came to play and this guy took a shot and it was going to hit the little kid but instead I took him out of the way and it hit me, then I realized that gut feeling of that it could have been the kid being hit and he would have been hurt.

  22. I don't really react without thinking. If it was an emergency and there is not time to think I would trust my gut just go without thinking. A time I really react fast without thinking was the time I was really scared. There was this time where me and my friends went camping. So we went hiking around the forest and we found a snake. I am really terrified of snakes. So when I saw it I ran so far away from it without thinking it was poisonous friendly or small I just don't like snakes. I usually react fast when I am scared or startled. When People get startled and scared at the same time they try to defend them selves without knowing which person. Quick reaction just defend without even look who your defending from.

  23. Vanessa Gentile

One time (well actually more than one time) at a soccer game. We only had one sub and I was off at the time, we were losing 1-0 with about five minutes left. She told me what the plan was when I get back on. She said I was going to go up (but I play defense) and take a hard shot on net. So when I got back on the field, everybody was yelling different thing to me like "GO UP" or STAY BACK" and I decided to go with my gut feeling and listen to the coach. It turned out that we got a corner kick, so I took it and I scored. The game ended in a tie.

  24. One time at a hockey game I had to make a very fast decision. We had tied the game and no one scored in overtime, and now it was all up to me in the shootout. My plan was to go up to the goalie with speed and the shoot if he was further in his net or deek if he was far out. I started scatting as fast as I could and at the blue line I realized that the goalie was far into his net so I took a shot and it went in. Unfortunately we lost the game, but I got my first shootout goal.

  25. I'm going to link my answer to hockey again. When I do shootouts in hockey, I don't really think if ehat I'm going to do because I have ti deke ir shoot depending on where the goalie is. U have to react quickly without really thinking. I have to take what the goalie gives me.
