Blog 53 - Wednesday, May 20, 2015 - Final Blog

There will be only one (1) blog this week - FINAL BLOG!

Your FINAL BLOG topic is FREE CHOICE!  You could blog about whatever it is you want, except what you've already blogged about!  You could go on a rant or you could simply blog about something important to you.

I highly recommend that you go OUTSIDE the BOX! Be creative and write about something you feel important or something you would like to tell your audience. GO ALL OUT! HAVE FUN!

You must remember your audience.  It is not simply me (Mr. Katz) reading this blog!
If you will be ranting about a certain individual, you need to leave their name out of this.  You could give them a pseudonym or simply leave their name as anonymous.
Make sure your language is appropriate.  Do not go on swearing tangents.

  1. Since this blog will be a blog of my choice, I decided to talk about the book that I am currently reading in English, I am David by Anne Holm. Personally, I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy this book so much, but now that I’ve read the whole book I found it was one of my favourites. There was always something to look forward to in the next chapter you were going to read, and there was always something different that occurs to the main character. It made me think about how the main character felt his whole life, and when he was finally free, it seemed like he thought that he was finally one of the boys.

  2. This blog is unfortunately our last, so I’ve decided to write about a very important subject, equality. Is anyone else annoyed with the fact that over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year? I know I am. It makes me sick that other people decide to pick on other people for their own good. I am very sure that they do not know the consequences that comes along with bullying someone. They don’t know how the victim feels and doesn’t care. Imagine yourself in the victim’s shoes, what would you do, how would you act. Most victims try to ignore it, others can’t take it any longer and end their lives. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it. The fact that suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people makes me really sad. I can’t believe that some people end their lives because of a bully, it’s so unfortunate. Please be aware of how you treat others so we can stop bullying for good.

  3. For today's free blog topic I will be talking about feminism (Inspired by Maya's blog) Many people are actually misinformed about feminism. Feminism does not mean women should rule the world, it means they should be treated with the same respect men are treated with. It means men don't have to feel "unmanly". I couldn't believe the amount of people on social media that were putting feminism down as if it is some sort of terrorist group. Many were going as far to say "Feminazism". I know that many feminists are women but that doesn't mean men can't be apart of it as well. Isn't that what feminism is about? People getting treated equally? I am hoping that after this blog you rethink your opinion on feminism.

  4. Antonyms are words quite different from one another, in fact opposite. An example is good vs. evil. Today I am going to talk about the thin line that separates these too antonyms. The concept of good and evil is very particular. Although they have opposite meanings, they have so much to do with one another. "When there is light. There is shadow." -Haruki Murakami This quote has a lot to do with what I am talking about. The line that separates good and evil is so thin, it’s practically invisible. I think that no one in the world consists of just good or just evil. We might be made up of one more than the other, but that doesn't mean we don't have a good or bad side to us. I wrote about this particular subject so that you could give others a chance. Yes people can sometimes be mean, but that does not mean that their isn’t somewhere in their heart that is kind, caring and friendly;) Look for the best in others and if there is very little of good in them, help them learn how to be nice.

  5. Many problems have been going on in the world today. A problem that needs to be addressed is bullying. I’m still confused how people need to put down other people to make themselves feel better. This problem has been going on for many years now and many people are trying to find a solution to end bullying forever. It bothers me that people think they can do what they want, say what they want, whenever they want and nobody will care. Kids can be cruel. I don’t get why we all just can’t be equal, we’re all human. I can’t believe 160,000 students are being taunted and afraid to go to school every day. It hurts to see someone sad and hurting because another kid is being rude and mean. Many people can be rude for no reason but it doesn’t make sense to me.

  6. Since today is our LAST BLOG of the year, I have decided to talk about bullying. This problem needs to be fixed and ended immediately. I'm shocked and confused that this is still happening after so many years. It's sad that people have to make fun and put people down just for the fun of it and making themselves feel better. Do they have any idea of what it does to people? It ruins the victims. They're afraid to go to school because of this. Young people are getting depressed and have a low self esteem because of this. Everyone deserves equal rights and should be treated fairly no matter if you're White or Black, Gay or Straight etc. I absolutely hate that bullying is still going on, people are people. We need to stop bullying once and for all. Put yourselves in their shoes and position. Imagine coming to school everyday, afraid and scared and worried because of these people. Think before you speak. Bullying is a bit like hangman, in hangman if you choose the wrong letters or word to many times, the character will be "hanged". Saying the wrong word could end a person's life. Let's end this all together.

  7. I really needed a break form all of these really depressing blogs!!! Soooo... since my last one was such a hit, I thought that I would make things that don't make sense PART 2! Why is it called a double U? It should be a double V! Why when we say the alphabet, we always say L M N O P like elemenopy? Why do people say heads up when you should duck? Why is it so hard to draw a star without any lines in the middle? Why do cartoon characters always wear the same thing in every single episode? Why are they called chicken fingers? Chicken don't have fingers! Why do the Kardashians make 65 million dollars a year and we don't? Why is there a poke button on Facebook? USELESS! Why does lemonade have artificial flavoring but furniture polish contains real lemon juice?! Why do we park in DRIVEways and drive on PARKways? Why are boxing rings square? Ring is in the name!!! If you can't drink and drive, then why do you need a drivers licence to buy liquor? Hope you liked this one as much as the first!!! (I love ranting about these random topics!) :)

  8. I can't believe we've all written 53 blogs this year! Since this is going to be our last one, I thought I would write about how my cousin and I love to do magic tricks. It's kind of random but my cousins visited last weekend so I thought it would be interesting to write about it! So my cousin Samantha is 12 years old, we get along really well and every time we see each other we put on a show for the rest of our family! She lives in Toronto so we don't get to see each other that often so every time we do see each other, we try to make the best of our time. So like I said we love putting on shows together. Last show we had was magic themed. We got these magic kits and started learning these cool, new tricks to perform. In one of the kits that I got, there was this trick where in a small mug was a red ball. The trick was to make it disappear! I performed the trick well but then my dad wanted to try it and of course he never practiced the trick before so he ended up just messing it all up! I got so mad because that was my favorite trick! The same thing happened to my cousin but with our uncle messing it up. We did end up laughing it off afterwards but at the time we were kind of disappointed! In the end, I'm just happy that I can spend time with my caring cousin and we always have a blast when were together. I love her so much as does she and we're constantly skpying each other. I'm super grateful to have a cousin like her in my life <3

  9. I was literally just about to blog about my summer, then I remembered Mr.Katz said it was a really lame idea. So now I’m just going to talk about a new movie I want to see! I’m still waiting for Paper Towns to come out, but while I’m waiting for that movie, I can watch Pitch Perfect two. Recently I watched Pitch Perfect on netflix (I know I’m a bit late on that trend) and I fell in love with it. It’s such a funny movie and I especially love Fat Amy because she’s hilarious! The singing is amazing and I realized how cool acapella actually is like. Now I can add Anna Kendrick on my list of favorite celebrities because she’s such a great singer and actor! Since I loved the old Pitch Perfect movie so much, I’m even more excited for this one. Many of my friends said it was even better than the first movie, hopefully I can find time to watch it because I know it’s going to be great!

  10. For the last blog of the year I am going to talk about how much I want a dog. My dog died three years ago just a little before Halloween. He was a golden retriever. He lived sixteen years and his name was Huck. My dad adopted him from the SPCA (society for the prevention of cruelty to animals) when he was a puppy. I was ten when he died and we still haven't gotten a dog since. My dad, my brother and I have been pushing my mom more and more to let us get a dog. She says it's going to be very hard because of all the sports that we do winter and summer. Also my mom thinks that the dog won't be very happy when during the day because half of the time my mom's on a plane and my dad's in Terrebonne for his work. That's a forty five minute drive with no traffic. I'm not sure what to do to get my parents to get a dog for us. I think it's even harder on my dad because when he was very stressed he would go walk my dog Huck and he would seem to come home like all the stress is gone. Another reason is he's known Huck since he was a puppy. It's also a very sad story how my dad had to make the decision to put Huck down. I never got to say goodbye to him because he got put down at two in the morning or something like that, anyway I was asleep. I miss him a lot and want a new dog really bad.

  11. I can't believe that this is actually our last blog! I'm definitely gonna make my last blog, a blog to remember then! Let's blog about food first! Now, my friends probably know that I don't really eat that much and that I'm a slow and picky eater. That's why I thoroughly enjoy buffets! You can choose the amount of food you want and what to eat! So much variety and freedom! It's truly amazing! I also really adore dim sums! Whenever I go with my family, we always order a whole lot of food and eat for about 2 hours max! Then we either go home, to shop or something else! My second topic to this blog is music! I've been listening to a lot more of pop music and I think that I might've fallen in love with so much songs already! But seeing how my music taste changes every so often, I usually favourite a new song everyday! My third and final topic! Canada's Wonderland. When I went to Toronto last weekend, the amusement park was already opened! Quite a shock since it was still a bit chilly there. However, business is business. I love free choice blogs and this is surprising, but I think I'm going to miss blogging.

As all of my friends know, I absolutely LOVE the "High School Musical" movies. I have loved them ever since I was a little girl. They are so good. I have watched all three movies of the series a million times. It's a classic everyone know's at least one song from "High School Musical". Even though the songs are kind of cheesy, they are so addicting and they get stuck in your head very easily. I know them like all of them by heart. It is one of my favorite childhood movies. At lunch time when I'am eating I would most likely just start singing a song from the film and some of my friends would think that's weird, which it probably is. I have a few of the songs from the movies in my music. Sometimes, when I am bored I liked to just listen to some of the old music from the movie and start to sing in my head or dance. It's really fun (haha). I just really miss those movies.

  14. For this last blog I want to talk to you about a toping that has been disturbing me for a very long time. It is CHILD LABOUR! This has been always bothering. Children who are my age or less go to work while I am here just being lazy doing nothing. This mostly happens in undeveloped country. Kids who are much younger than me go to work which is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and very harmful for them. Most of the time these jobs don’t offer what they deserve. They usually get a very poor salary and conditions to work in. Yet they are expected a lot in their work such as working from sun rise to sun down. Also because they work from such young age when they grow up they have no more energy to feed their family and work, they have no choice to send their kids to work. So this will always continue this pattern. Something to make this even worse, is I have even seen kids my age who have already joined the military. At the age of holding a pencil many kids are sent off to military. This is probably the worst. I read this book which was a true story in Africa where a boy lived in a hut with his family and one day a group of terrorist came into his house killed all the family except the little boys .Then forced them to join their army. It is already bad that they killed his parents and then they force him to quit his education and join them. In the book we learn how he had a huge dream in becoming a doctor because his grandmother died of Malaria. I know kids always have weird dreams but this dream of his was not unreasonable it was something he was truly passionate about which was ruined by a bunch of evil soldiers. In conclusion I believe this is a real big issue which is REALLY WRONG!!!

  15. What is the meaning of friendship? For me, friendship means everything! Friendship is when 2 people bond together and commit themselves to each other, almost like marriage! My best friend ever is, was and always will be Madurra! I am a very loyal person and if someone is not loyal to me I will go mad (LITERALLY!!). In grade five, I thought Madurra was gonna ditch me and I cried and yelled and I did not talk to her for almost like a month! Then I said sorry and I started crying. That was a moment in life where I completely lost control of my mind, and the only thing running in my mind was the thought of how I will survive with nobody else to talk to. Since then, it has gotten a bit better. I did not fight as much with her and yes we did have a few small fights along the way, but I know what ever happens I will not let go of her! I am person that over thinks stuff sometimes and when it come to family and friends, I get real serious! Nobody messes with my friends! I do have other friends, however, none as special Madurra. I have known this girl since the first day of kindergarten! I remember asking if she was Tamil and what her name was. However, she remembers the day as her asking the same question to me first. That day is unforgettable! Since, then I have been by her side all the time! I know I have given her so much pain in the past. Whether it was busting her lip with the end of a skipping rope or slapping her with the end of my winter jacket. Even if all this happened, she has never hurt me in any way, other than making me think that she will ditch me for life! I am sorry. However, all that has passed and it was our fate! Now, I feel like saying a sorry and guaranteeing something. Madurra, you will always be my bestest friend no matter what!! I love you buddy! (Rarity, to Fluttershy)

  16. Since it was the last blog I think I would blog about problems that the world is facing today like the lac of education in some poorer countries. We are all excited for school to end but some kids don't have school and we should appreciate how lucky we are. Some kids aren't able to go to school instead they have to work in factories to support their families. Us in Canada are extremely lucky to live in a city with great education that allows us to reach our fun potential. Unlike in rich countries in poorer countries children don't have the opportunity to go to school to receive a proper education. I think hat all of us are lucky to have the right to an proper education.

  17. I really don't know what to do for the last blog of the year. I'm just going to do what could st thomas maybe improve a little bit. I think our school is great, I really do, but there are some things that could be better. I understand that there are a lot of kids in the school and that there isn't enough space for big lockers for everyone, but honestly, the small lockers are tiny. I have a big locker but I feel bad for the people who have small lockers. Another thing I know would be expensive and probably won't happen, is Air conditioning. In the classes that get the sun All day it is insanely hot. Honestly besides that, I don't know what else I would do.

  18. For this final blog I will be blogging about advertisement. The reason I’m blogging about this is because it is everywhere. You have to notice something that is everywhere you look. I see advertisements at least once every day. I usable go home and watch a TV show witch always have so many ads. Although I understand TV because that’s one of the only was that they can make money. But when there all over those annoying websites and on the road that just makes me made. I don’t mind passing picture or ten second videos the worst is when they’re everywhere and when there bigger than the thing you actually are looking for. It obviously works amazingly if there so much of it but when I go to the store I don’t think Oh that cool cereal that that guy in the commercial told me to get. Or maybe it really those work and I really do look for advertised things. Advertisements are very annoying and it does look like it’s going away.

  19. When I heard free blog I already knew what I was going to blog about and it is a really serious matter. Yes summer is finally coming but with no entertainment what so ever. All the good sports that are played at the end of October to the middle of June. Sports is the most important thing in my life after my family of course. Everyone is getting that feeling of happiness because school is ending but they will have nothing to watch on TV at night and honestly I don't think they are always going to be tuning into baseball games where you can see the Blue Jays . Three out of my favorite 4 sports to watch on TV is coming to an end. In the NHL and the NBA they are both in conference finals and for soccer there is one more game on June 6th which is the Champions League Final with Barcelona against Juventus. If there isn't an interesting sport sooner or later I am going to be glad the school is still going on so that sports are too.

  20. For this blog I will be writing about something that really annoys me, pollution. It is so annoying when people just put their garbage or unused stuff on the ground. There are garbage cans for a reason! Especially when people put their garbage in the water. It can hurt the animals and kill them. And it's no the best thing for the environment either. I once watched a documentary on this island, and it was just filled with garbage that was washed up from the sea. There were a bunch of seagulls living there and they were all dead. It was terrible to watch. Also in poor place there tends to be a lot of pollution too. It's not fair because of our pollution the rest of the world has to suffer. If you can throw your garbage on the ground, you can throw it in a trash can. This kind of relates to the book I was reading in class. "Trash" they spend their days searching through trash. Their home is just mountains and piles of trash. They live in a dump Site! It is not a true story but it is sad to think about it. I hope that over the years people will stop polluting.
