Odysseus' idea to call himself NOBODY is brilliant!

What was the most brilliant idea you have ever had?  Why was it such a great idea? Explain.

  1. Probably the best idea I ever had was when I owed my little cousin money. I was found myself, so I was very immature. I decided to play a trick on my cousin. I picked up my piggy bank and took out 5 cents and a 10 cents. I put the money in front of my cousins face and asked him if he wanted the bigger coin or the smaller coin. Obviously, a small kid like him would choose the bigger coin, so without hesitation, he snatched the 5 cents out of my hand. I was so proud of my idea!

    1. Smart idea! Small kids do tend to take whatever looks bigger thinking it may be more valuable. Nice blog!

  2. I’ve never really had a great idea, I’ve had great ideas while I brainstorm and do school stuff but like stuff really big I’ve never done something that brilliant like Odysseus’ idea. In school I would brainstorm ideas and help my group out. Ex.. In ethics class we have to do a group project and we all brainstorm ideas and make one whole big script about everything we brainstormed.

  3. Odysseus’s idea to call himself Nobody, is a brilliant idea! Now that I know of this, it might start coming in handy! Or maybe not… with the ideas I come up with! If I had to choose, the most brilliant idea I’ve EVER come up with would have to be… hmm I’m not so sure about that! I pitch in a lot when it comes to school and apparently they are great ideas! I do come up with so many every day that I find it’s hard to remember which ones are great and which ones aren’t. I could remember one I had that stands out to me. Because I can be very lazy sometimes, I thought that I could take a basket, and attach a rope to it. Because my room is located right next to a railing that overlooks downstairs, I’d roll my basket down in mid air and if my mom needed to give me something, she’d just drop it in! I thought it was a great idea for some time but then I noticed that 1: it didn’t look neat, and 2: it was actually pretty annoying after a while! It was a great idea then but now I don’t find it so amazing.

    1. OMG! TWINSIES!!!.....kind of. My friend and I would almost do something similar to that. Once I went to her house we literally spent the whole time sending messages from a box. My friend would be on the top stairs and I would be on the bottom and we would send letters the way you did it! Though we used a rope and a Kleenex box. This might sound a bit lame but I had such a fun time. I think your idea was BRILLIANT! :)

  4. I’m such a lazy person. I literally would do whatever it takes to have the simplest way. So what I call “brilliant ideas” is when I can find a cheat or a faster way to do things. Even though I like the easy way I’m also a perfectionist. So it’s a bit hard for me to find brilliant ideas because they can only work out if it’s fast and still up to my standards. Some tips and tricks I found have to do cleaning up my room, studying and a lot more. Anyways, I really like brilliant ideas because in my case they help me spend more time on things I enjoy instead of boring chores and ect.

  5. Once I tricked my brother into taking fake money from me and him giving me real money. when he was little he didn't know the difference. He though I had given him 100$. He had given me 15$. When we went to the dollar store to buy something I took my 15$ and my brother took his fake 100$. my brother went to the cash with a hole load of toys and gave the fake money to the cashier. When I saw the cashier looking angry my brother crying I knew my plan had worked. It was hilarious to watch the reaction of my brother when the cashier said it was fake money.

  6. Odysseus is a very intelligent man, I would've never came up with an idea as brilliant as his. I would've been super scared if I was in that situation, and I wouldn't have thought of that right away. The most brilliant idea I've ever thought of was when I was 4 years old. My little sister, Macie, was 1 at the time and could barely talk. As a child I wasn't a fan of my vegetables and one time my mom told me I could only have dessert if I ate all my carrots and corn. Being a mischievous little girl, when my mom wasn't looking, I put all my carrots and corn on Macie's plate. Once my mom turned back around she was amazed of how I ate all my vegetables. Poor Macie, she had to eat double the amount of vegetables.

  7. One of my few "brilliant ideas" was when my cousin and I were arguing. Now my cousin is two years younger than me, a boy and much like myself. Headstrong, loud and I never quit. So we were arguing back and forth like: "Your in the shower first", "No you..." so on and so forth. So I decided to use reverse psychology on him and it worked he was so confused that he lost the argument and had to do whatever we were fighting about.

  8. Odysseus' idea was very smart. I would have never done that or reacted that calmly. One of my most brilliant ideas (or so my friend says that it is GENIUS) was to have a sleepover on the night of halloween because we were going to go out together and decided that it would be awesome to have it then and we were also volunteering for the IBO entrance exam the next morning. The only problem, we had to be at school at 7:45 in the morning the next day so it didn't work out too well. I think that was a good idea but the IBO exam really screwed things up.

  9. I never really have amazing or brilliant ideas. I have good ideas but they are not genius. I am not a quick thinker. I can't come up with ideas fast like Ulysses did by calling himself "nobody". It takes me a few minutes to think of great ideas like this. Whenever I get a good idea I think it is so smart but after when I look back I think it wasn't that great. I never really come up with things fast like Ulysses and I never think about what will happen in the future like how he did with the name "nobody". Its usually my friends who come up with the great ideas and I just follow them. I'm not saying that I never have ideas its just that they are not amazing like some people.

  10. This idea isn’t that brilliant compared to Ulysses’ idea but it’s still pretty smart. I play hockey and after every practice or game I play, my friend always throw’s the snow from under his skates at me and what I used to do was just to throw snow back at him but then I got an awesome idea. My idea was instead of throwing the snow at my friend I would put the snow on the sealing on top of my friend. The snow would then melt and since he couldn’t move from his stop, water would drip on his head until he got undressed.

  11. I play competitive hockey and every time on the ice involves quick thinking and good ideas. All the training in the world can never prepare you for what the opponent might do and how to react quickly and "on the spot". Not only can that training help you for hockey, but also for every day life situations. I think Ulysses was really smart to make Polyphemeus think that his name was nobody. Although he made a big mistake when he told the giant his actual name, which wasn't really smart.

  12. A brilliant idea! I thought at first this would be the hardest blog yet! I thought I would never find a brilliant idea. I asked my sisters and my mom if they remember any brilliant ideas that I had. They didn't remember any ideas that I had. I was thinking really hard about it. I started to continue on with my day, when my grandpa came over. He was telling me how much he loved the paragraph that I had to right on someone who is obsessed with something. I did it on my grandpa and his golf. Anyway he was going on and on about how he loved it! He wanted to buy a picture frame and hang it on the wall. Then it happened, I had a brilliant idea without even knowing it. I said "we should buy a cheep picture frame at Walmart or something and do a collage on it with pictures of him golfing, and things relating to golf on it." Everyone thought it was a great idea! That's when I noticed that i finally had a brilliant idea. I remember every single detail because this only happened 30 minutes before I started this blog. We will definitely use my brilliant idea!

  13. My brilliant idea is kind of wierd. It was when me and my dad were watching the canadiens hockey game. His buddy, Elliot Price does a sports talk morning show, and sometimes does the commentary of hockey games on the radio. My dad wanted to listen to him but watch the game at the same time. So he put the radio on and started listening to him, and put the t.v. on and put it on mute. So now he was listening to the commentary on the radio and watching the game on the t.v., so it wasn't 100% perfect timing and it was really annoying. I thought what if you pause the t.v. for a couple seconds and then play it to cut out the delay. So I told him exactly that, then he yelled “Brianna!” At this point I thought he was mad at me, and it startled me, then he said “you’re brilliant!”. Anyways it made me happy!

According to my parents I was one of the most "genius" toddlers and came up with some awesome things to do when I was bored, let me tell you one those "brilliant" ideas I had. Okay, so in my kitchen we have a drawer that has hold some of our pots and pans. Little Vanessa decided to open the drawer and go inside of it. I was taking them all out and trying to figure out what each one did. I put them all on the ground and started picking them up to see what I would do with it. For the first pot I took, I came up with the idea to put it on my head so that it would protect me from all the monsters and bad guys. For the second pot, I turned it upside down, then took a wooden spoon and played the drums. As you can see I have a musical background! And finally, I took a third pot, turned it upside down and used as a chair to sit on while I was playing my "drums" and wearing my stylish hat! Now you know how brilliant of a toddler I was. There are so many things you can do with pots!

  15. The best idea I've ever had was back when my parents would be bugging me about staying fit and going outside more. So to get them off my back about it I started doing archery because I still stay inside and I kind of, sort of get exercise, so it's i win win for both me and my parents. That's the best Idea of mine that I can think of.

  16. I seriously, don't think I've ever had a brilliant idea. I don't even understand how Odysseus is so smart though, it's definitely confusing! Going on, umm, well I’ve never really had a good idea. I’ve had plenty of bad decisions involved in my life but never good ones (well rarely). If I think about it, I don’t even remember any good ideas. I really want to write about one of my smart ideas but, I just can’t think of one. I would love to tell you my bad ideas though! Bad decisions are basically everywhere I turn! Wait, I just kind of remembered something! One of the best ideas I’ve ever had (when I was little and when I loved to exaggerate), I told my aunt that when I grew up, I would make a machine where we humans, COULD UNDERSTAND ANIMALS! The animal would be like, “Meow, meow, meow meow.” Then the machine would translate it to “Hey master, I’m hungry.” How brilliant was that {not}. Well, anyway. That’s literally the best idea I’ve EVER had, and all my other ideas are bad ones. All I’m trying to say, is that all my ideas turn out horrible.

  17. Odysseus's idea was brilliant, calling himself nobody so they couldn't know how to find out who did the dirty work, it was brilliant and smart, unlike most of my ideas, so here's mine. When I was younger, when I got my first Ipod in grade 3 and would always sneak on it at night. I would get away with it most of the time, but my sister always walking by my room to go somewhere, would see that I would be quickly putting my Ipod on my bed side table and quickly turning over to pretend I'm sleeping, would realize. So one time, I realized that she saw me turning over on to my pillow so that would make her think that I'm sneaking, so I kept turning over on to my pillow (without actually having my Ipod with me), and came in to my room so I told her that I was testing her.

  18. Brilliant ideas, that I ever had in my life. This is such an easy topic since I had a lot of “brilliant” ideas in my life. I am actually a really dumb person and most of the time my really intelligent ideas are really lame to other people. But you never know the first person who said the world was round everyone else said: Wow! You are so lame or you are so dumb. Anyways once my cousins and I were at an amusement park and we all decided to play Wack-A-Mole together. I left my money in my bag which my mom was carrying for me. So I borrowed money like a toonie from my cousin who was approximately six years old. When I came back he asked me for his money so instead of giving him a toonie I brought him four quarters. Then I asked him do you want one toonie or four quarters. First he said I want my toonie but then I convinced him by saying things like: Wow man you are really not making a good decision , you’re picking one toonie over FOUR quarters. Are you sure you do not want it? Then obviously he fell for it and ended up taking the quarters. Then after he accepted I told him the truth and told him it is too late to refuse the offer and a deal is a deal. He was mad at me then. Then his parents were like it is your fault believing her. Anyways now we just think about those day and just laugh at it how gullible we use to be and how silly we were.

  19. I do not really come up with brilliant ideas that often, but I've had some good ones recently. Last week, my mom yelled at me for some reason(I'm sorry I really can't remember why) and she took my phone away for the week. She then told my dad and put my phone on the fireplace which is the room where my dad usually is. When my mom had to leave for Toronto, she kept my dad in charge of making sure my phone was on the fireplace. After a while, when my dad went to take a shower, I took out my phone and just kept the case of my phone there because my dad was near-sighted and he never wore his glasses. The best thing was that I kept the phone back in its usual place and spot before my mom ever noticed.

  20. One of my many “brilliant” ideas was to take a pinch out a cake that just came out of the oven and eat it. I guess because I was really small and not really smart, I thought my mom wasn’t going to notice but…..she did. Then she asked everyone in the house who did it and of course, I lied and told my mom our dog did it. My mom surprisingly bought my lie and I though “ wow that was easy!”. Last year I told them the truth that I did it and the second I did we all laughed a lot because we all knew that if my dog actually did that there would be a pinch missing…there would be a whole half missing!

    1. Your great idea was pretty funny if you ask me! It's great to know that you were a mischievous little kid too {happy that I wasn’t the only one}! Don't tell me you aren't smart though okay! Abby you are SUPER DUPER UNICORNY smart! Anyway, I totally understand why you lied though. I would've done the same thing when I was smaller, I was a little devil. And WOAH! Abby your the best! I just came up with a great idea I had when I was little! THANKS SO MUCH ABBY! Back to your blog, your mom most likely believed you since you were a sweet kid. It's nice to know that your family doesn't hold grudges though! It must make you very happy that your family took it as something too laugh about! Your last sentence though! It cracked me up! I totally agree with you! Not that I’ve ever met your dog, however, judging from the movies I’ve watched. Your dog would’ve most likely of squashed your cake! I probably would’ve done the same thing since, I’m REALLY messy! I can’t pick better words other than WHIMSICAL job Abby!

  21. When Ulysses told Polyphemus that his name was nobody, it was a “brilliant” idea. I would have said something stupid or something that doesn’t make sense. I’m sure I would have never had an idea as brilliant as he did. Personally I’ve never had a brilliant idea. I’ve had some good ideas. One good idea that I had is when we went to play mini golf in Lake George. We had a great time and it has been a family tradition ever since. I’ve had some ideas while I was in school working on projects, assignments, homework, etc. I don’t get a lot of good ideas often but when I do, they are spectacular.

  22. My best idea ever was when I made fun of my brother because my parents wouldn't let him have cake. So this how it happened my mom said who ever wants the last piece has to finish the cake first . So I think everyone reading this blog knows what's going to happen but here it is anyway so when she said go she would talk to people so while she wasn't looking I put everything on my brothers plate cause I don't like carrot cake so my mom believed me in the end so I got my favorite chocolate cake. So that was my great idea.

  23. This was my best idea. One day I was at school and my little brother took my agenda because he tried to play a trick on me. So when I got home before I told my mom, I wanted to teach my brother a lesson. So the next morning I took his agenda out of his bag and put it in my pack. We also have the same agenda so when he took an agenda out of my bag it was his agenda and my agenda stayed in my bag. That was not really my best idea but that was the best idea I actually remember.

  24. In my life I have definitely had a lot of amazing ideas, but the best one occurred last winter. My neighbors and I were each building our own snow, I needed a way to make mine stronger because some of the others fell down like a house made out of straw, but mine had to be the brick house. After thinking for days, I came up with the best idea, it was to hose it down and make it an ice fort. That made it not only 10x stronger, but it also stopped my enemies from climbing the walls, It was at that moment, I realized I am a genius.
