Blog 15 - Monday, November 10, 2014

Ulysses is away from his home (Ithica) for over 20 years! WOW! That is a long time to be away from your family, friends and life!  Obviously, there are many changes that occur!

Imagine coming back to St. Thomas 20 years from now (2014), what sort of changes do you think will occur? Will anything remain recognizable/the same? Explain.

I think a lot will have changed there will have probably been a few renovations and obviously better technology. Most teachers will have left the school and I probably wouldn't recognize them if they did stay. The ways of teaching will have also changed a lot. I think the main building would probably remain mostly the same with a bit of changes. Who knows St. Thomas might even be a part of Felix Leclerc or vice versa.

    1. I agree, 20 years is a long time so I think a lot would have changed. I hope there will be new renovations because it will probably look old fashion in 20 years. Great blog:')

I don't really know what would change in twenty (20) years from now. Maybe they'll be bigger lockers, longer periods, shorter periods, more students, less students, who knows. There would probably be more technology used in the school for projects and work. The teachers who are here know could still be here teaching THE SAME THINGS, how crazy would that be. I think all the walls would change colour, people will dress differently (maybe in a uniform). Obviously there won't be the same students we have now. Overall I think the school will just update some things that need some updating.

  3. In my opinion, I don’t think many things will be changed 20 years from now, maybe some of the teachers will be gone or retired, but I don’t think many big changes will be made. Maybe some little things but other than that the school is in a very good state and for me is fine the way it is. I wish that they would put bigger lockers because the ones near the gym are super tiny and maybe they could be a bit bigger in my opinion.

    3. True, those are the lockers I have the super tiny ones! It is horrible at the beginning, however, once you get a shelf and save as much space as possible, the lockers will be fine. I agree with you maybe there will not be any changes at all! I hope nothing big changes.

  4. I think that there won't be that many in 20 years. There will be new teachers that could teach a different way. I think the school would renovate because it's already pretty old but I think the the outside of the school won't change very much. I think the technologies will advance a lot and maybe the whole school will be on laptops or maybe they all be working on Google drive who knows? I think overall the school will just update a couple of things.

  5. Seeing as St. Thomas is a very old school, I would imagine they would renovate the school to make it newer and more modern. Also, the type of people going to the school would probably change, meaning the generation of the students would evolve. By then, I imagine St.Thomas more advanced in technology. That being said, a lot and occur in just twenty years!

  6. First of all, I think the principal will be a robot. Nahhhh, just kidding, but I do think that the technology will be much more advanced than it is now. I think every class will have chrome books to start off with. I also think the bathrooms will be renovated and the school will all get new lockers. I think there will be pretty much new everything because what we have now isn't the best. A lot of things can happen in 20 years. Also a lot of things can get done.

  7. Technology has really changed us in a matter of years and I can't imagine what would happen in 20 years! A lot can change in 20 years and it's hard to predict the future so my predictions won't be accurate AT ALL! Stairs will no longer exist at school! Your kids would ask you about how you got around at school and when you say stairs, they would be like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Elevators would be available to everyone. Next, lockers would be electronic. You would program your schedule for the day and when you come after class, you locker will have all of your books available for you at the push of a button. And I think that St. Thomas in the future would involve a lot of robots....... teachers, principles, etc. (I think I've really been letting my inner-self out in these blogs lately....)

    1. I agree with you! Your ideas are just so spontaneous! I especially liked your idea about electronic lockers! Programming our schedule into our lockers sounds pretty cool! Also about the 'press of a button book' thing! That sounds absolutely AWESOME! Even about the robot talk. With our teachers being robots (it kind of seems like they are saving money because you don't have to pay robots but, what do I know?) they would probably not be as fun as the teachers we have now! Why not stick with real life human beings? Letting your inner-self out on your blogs is pretty fantastic! I don't think I'd ever be able to do that so I admire that about you! It's great how you are basically spilling your guts out and you aren't afraid to show it! Telling what you actually think is better than having to think 'what should I write'. When you actually write as if you are speaking to someone it’s so much better than having to rethink it. Overall, your blog was awesome, you couldn't have done a better job! And all of your other blogs, they were jaw-dropping, especially this one!

  8. I think so many things would have changed, because 20 years is a SUPER long time! I think we would have completely new teachers. Actually since technology is growing so fast and making us so much more lazy to get up and do things, I think the teachers would work from home. All the students will have new IPad 22's (twenty second generation) and the teachers would teach from face time. Not just the way we would teach would be different I think the whole school would be so much more modern and new! Like our lockers would have a built in TV and IPod so we can watch and listen to things. Instead of taking hours of time and energy walking to each class, we would have super fast magic carpets (the things when you go skiing that takes you up the bunny hill). I might be a bit exaggerating with how fast our technology's gonna be but I think it will change a lot! Anyway you never know....soon there might even be flying cars!!!

    1. I hope there will be flying cars because staying in traffic is really annoying and boring. That would be actually fun learning on facetime then I won't ever get up in the morning early,dress-up, brush my teeth I would just keep my Ipad beside me while I am sleeping set an alarm 5 minutes before class then wake exactly 5 minutes before. Also this way you would not be late to class,or forget your textbook in your locker and you won't need to miss school. For example if you have a doctor's appointment just bring your Ipad with you. Anyways your blog was really interesting and I really want a flying car.

  11. Twenty years from now I sure hope I won’t still be here but I am sure that a lot of (or all) the teachers that are today won’t be there. For example a teacher that was at the age of 45 years old, would be 65 and would be retiring. A twenty years old young non married teacher would be 50 years old and married with probably children. Also one thing for sure that will change is our use of technology. I am sure all the students will have their own laptop, they will probably have teleporters class to class and our locker passwords would probably be our fingerprints or our voice. Who knows it is in the future we will just have to wait and see. Who knows what lies ahead we might even not change at all.

    1. I am sure the fingerprint lockers would arrive by that time. Fingerprints are more secure and you can not really share them. People can not break into your locker and steal something. That is an awesome idea!

  12. If I came back to St. Thomas after 20 years, there would obviously be plenty of changes. A big change would probably be the technology. Who knows, maybe there might even be computers instead of teachers, or instead of a library, there will be online books. Technology has been changing for the past years and I don't think it's going to stop now. Another thing that would change would be the teachers, there will probably be a whole new generation of teachers that would be totally different from the teachers we have now. St.Thomas is a really old school, in 20 years it will be really old and run down, so I'm assuming that there will hopefully be some new renovations.

    1. I think St. Thomas will have renovations in 20 years, or sooner. Every couple of years, every school is renovated in some way. There will probably be more technology in the upcoming 20 years. It could be true that the teachers will turn into computers. The library could have online books also. You could be right. Great Job Maya!!!!

    2. I agree! Not all schools will be the same and renovations will have to be done, especially to an older school. Great blog!

  13. If I came back to St. Thomas after 20 years, everything would be different. there would definitely be like nothing the same, except maybe the actual school. Everything else would be so different. i would probably not remember most things about it. I do not want to be away from St. Thomas after 20 years any time soon. It would be so weird because i wouldn't know anyone there.

  14. If I were to come back to St.Thomas 20 years from now, the school will have tons of changes. The school will be really old and maybe even shut down, but hopefully there would have been renovations for the past 20 years that I've been gone for. There would be a lot of new technology at the school like maybe there isn't even books in the school, people might just use the internet to find a book or to do their math homework( were just starting it and all but it would be way more advanced). Maybe kids won't even be using pencils, they'll be using their mouses to draw and do math problems. So i think the school will be very different in 20 years. Maybe the school will be just fine. My parents went to John Rennie more than 20 years ago and the school is fine.

    1. They are lucky. It is hard for me accept change, and if I were them and the school had changed, I would burst into tears. I would be really stressed out!

  15. Obviously not! Nothing will stay the same except for St-Thomas' spirit! Now, I think everything else would be different though because since 20 years is going to past by, nothing can actually stay the same. Their will probably be an overall change with renovations and furniture and classrooms. They might even be smaller or perhaps even larger! On to the outside. The soccer field outside might even become a part of the school! Basically an indoor soccer field! Like, the gym might even be combined with that to make a super large gym! Adding along, like everyone else has mentioned, the TECHNOLOGY. The library might even be combined with a computer lab and doesn't that sound awesome? The technology might even be so advanced that everyone will be carrying around laptops instead of textbooks! Now, the new generation sounds pretty cool if your think about it. I also think that mostly everything might be renovated. The washrooms will look prettier and the hallways might even be a tiny bit wider. Along with the lockers though. I think the only things that will be the same are the only things they won’t renovate (if that makes sense). Of course, the things I’ve mentioned. They might not even change and only little things will be fixed. For now though, I’m quite happy with the teachers teaching here and the students who are in this school. I wish that nothing would change but, that can’t happen. All I’m saying is that, changes might be made and maybe nothing will be different. Who has a time machine? (You get it, so we can see the future?)

  16. If I were gone for twenty years I would be 32 years old! The school would be so much different to. It’s hard to think about all the new technologies in twenty years but they would probably very different way of teaching. I hope this same school is still standing and it doesn’t get replaces whit some super school or whit a different building. Maybe the school will merge whit Félix-Leclerc or maybe both school will get destroyed! Only time will tell.

  17. If I was away from st.Thomas for 20 years, I think a lot would have changed. A major part would be the technology. There would probably be crazy advanced computers, maybe even robots as teachers. There would definitely be a lot of renovations to make it a lot ore modern. There would most likely be no library either, just internet and technology. I don't think I would like going to school if it were like that. I would prefer to have people as teachers, and have a library . I find right now is the perfect time period. a little bit of technology mixed in with non-technology stuff.

  18. I think the school would be tore down to bits or replaced with something else or all the tech would be replaced with machines that implants information into you brain over time through images or machines would be self aware and hunting down the human race or for some reason st thomas would be exactly the same or instead of buses there would be teleporters and I don't have to wake up at 4 in the morning... the last one would be awesome

  19. If I came back to St. Thomas probably most parts of the school will have changed. Since technology is moving very quickly these days we would probably see all new devices that weren’t invented when we were in high school. They also probably would have made all kinds of renovations while 20 years have gone by. They might also have some new teachers in the school. St. Thomas will always be the same school but it will be harder to recognize in future years. I think some parts of the school will still be recognizable but it depends if they change the entire school. I think I will be able to tell the differences and the similarities of the St. Thomas. I don’t think the school will look the same at all but they might resemble a bit.

  20. If I was away from St.Thomas for 20 years and I just came back, I'm sure there would be changes. Maybe there would be a new principal, new secretaries and probably new teachers. The school would probably look different inside. The students would be obsessed with something new and they probably would have some new phone or device like the iphone 12! They would definitely dress differently. St.Thomas would be really different in 20 years!

  21. If in 20 years I came back to Saint-Thomas I bet a lot of things would have changed. What with the technological advances we make each day I bet that there'll finger scanner's, tablet that are specifically made for the lessons, robots and maybe more. There would probably be some renovations. The school might change quite a bit but Saint-Thomas will always be Saint-Thomas at heart no matter the length of change.

  22. If I came back to St. Thomas I am sure that most of the things in the school would change such as the class rooms they would probably be painted. All the teachers would be knew because I don't think anyone is at a school for 20 years straight. The kids attitude would change because they would thing they are cooler in 20 years. The teachers would be different , they might be very nice or mean. But if I went back and opened the doors I don't think I would see anyone I know. But some of the walls, desks and hallways will be the same for sure. I think people would be serious about the environment because it will be more serious in the future. Those are some of my theories about our school in the future.

  23. If I came back to St.Thomas in twenty years I think that things would be a lot different. All of the teachers will be new, accepted for the young ones that decide to stay there. There would probably be a lot more of the work online because people are using technology more and more in the past few years. Then I would be 32 and maybe I would have some children that go St.Thomas and that would be really interesting because they would be able to tell me all about it. In conclusion I think that a lot will have changed in twenty years.

  24. St Thomas in 20 years would probably be a bit different, but everything with be more or less the same because the school is really old itself. There would probably be some new technology and different teachers, but I think the hallways and the stairs wouldn't change. If you think about it, twenty years go by really fast because twenty years ago it was 1994 and it surprises me to know that I am going to be twenty years old in just six years! Overall, the type of students will remain the same and I think the school will be as good as it is right now.

  25. I think that nothing big would change in 20 years. The school is amazing the way it is. There is no change to be done. Maybe the school will look old, however, old has a certain fancy touch to it. That will make St-Thomas special. Being up-to-date has its benefits. However, standing out and being different from others is what is important. In 20 years, just like now, most schools will be as up-to-date as possible. Following old customs and old St-Thomas(high school) traditions will make this school special. Most parents do not like some of the new technology and fashion. For them. this will be the school they would want to sent their children to. Some things might change, such as, locks. However, that will not have a great impact on the school. The changing of locks will be for the benefit of the students. Some teachers might leave or retire. However, hopefully they will still be able to teach and be as amazing as they are now. In conclusion, I hope that the change that is arriving will not have a huge negative impact on our school.

  26. If I came back to St. Thomas twenty years from now I think that not much would change. Of course the principal, vice-principal, students, most teachers, etc. would all be different. Though the building itself would be the same. There might be some stuff in the school that need to be replaced or fixed such as desks, bathrooms, textbooks, etc. Also, there might be some new technology, we are talking about the future. Other than that everything would probably be the same.

  27. In 20 years from now, I think a lot will change at St. Thomas. A lot could happen in 20 years, for instance new technologie will appear and the smart boards will actually (hopefully!) become smart. But, there will probably be another type of board to write on. Maybe a new main website that everyone visits every day will come out and it will be the new google! But that happening, might be a small percentage! Things will most likely be the same as for the school layout, but things are dought to change. Obviously, some teachers won’t be there for another 20 years, so new teachers would be something different. Maybe some parts of the school will be re-painted or new drawings will be added throughout the walls. I do think that the school will be most likely similar, but small changes could also make it look like a completely different school.

  28. If I came back to St.Thomas after being away for 20 years a lot of things would be different! I think that instead of using notebooks and binders we would only use iPads and computers. There would be no use for notebooks that have all of our answers they would all be on google. We are using the chrome books in class and I think many classes and many schools will be using iPads and computers in class. I would find it weird because I’ve only used notebooks except for this year in English. Other kids would learn at school differently with computers because they can easily get distracted and they don’t even need a teacher! All they would need is google.
