THERE WILL ONLY BE ONE (1) BLOG THIS WEEK. It is due Wednesday September 17 @ 11:59pm
We are three (3) weeks into the new school year. On Thursday evening, many of your parents will be attending a meet the teacher session here at St. Thomas High School.
How has the start to your 2013-14 school year gone thus far? What have you told your parents? What have you not told your parents? Explain.

ReplyDeleteThe start to my school year was very hectic. It was a very big step and I found that my grade 6 teachers did not prepare us enough for high school. I really like most of my teachers. My parents have been told about my psycho art teacher, Mr Allali. His style of teaching is very interesting and strange. His punishments are sometimes hilarious as long as it's not me receiving them. He is also strict when it comes to being on time. My parents have also heard about my little Shakespeare experience with "A midsummer night's dream". There is nothing so far that I haven't told them and they are aware of everything going on in my high school life.

I also talked to my parents about "A midsummer Nights dream". I think that this is one of the most fun things we've done so far in English class! Cant wait to read more!

The start of my school year was very different. I feel that I was somewhat prepared for high school, but was really scared I didn’t really notice it, but as the days go by, I realize that I was ready for it. I told my parents that I was scared, and didn’t know if I was really ready for what was coming my way, but they would respond saying the same thing “You’ll be fine, there’s nothing to worry about!” And I found that what they said didn’t really help, but it started making sense and eventually they were right. I never kept anything from my parents, what was important I told them about and whatever wasn’t I still told them about!
ReplyDeleteI felt somewhat prepared in the beginning then I lost all my hope but now I think I am regaining it.Also you are so right about when people say like" Oh You will survive .Don't worry" like it did not help me .But anyway I hope you have a great year

Fortunately and unfortunately, seeing as my mom attends my school on a daily basis, my parents will not be attending the “meet the teacher” event. As far as my outlook on the school year, I have really been enjoying St-Thomas. I think it has a really good atmosphere to it and that is surely something I've mentioned to my mom and dad. I'm not the type to keep secrets from my parents, therefore, at the end of my school day, I tell my parents all the ups and downs of my day. I am thrilled to be a student at St-Thomas and hope to continue with a positive attitude during the school year.

I really liked your bog and I hope you have a good year:)
DeleteThis beginning of the school year is very different then I’m used to. For example new rules, more classes and it’s so much bigger! So far I had my ups and downs. I came really lucky this year because I literally love ALL my teachers. Everyone’s super nice and funny. Some downs were that I got lost a bunch of times and I find the work we get is so much more then I’m used to. I’m pretty sure I told my parents everything that happened so far, because every day they always ask me and my brother at supper. So they’re aware of everything. Even though it’s been three weeks into the school year, I’m still adjusting to it. But I’m pretty sure it will turn out to be an AMAZING year.

I can relate to what your experiencing! It’s true that there is more homework. We can manage though, right? You were also saying all the teachers were nice, I ( literally ) have NO doubts about them either. Funny and amazing’s a great combination, if you know what I mean *wink wink*. Anyway, good job!

The start of this school year is very different from all of my other school years. In the beginning I was definitely not used to running from class to class with only five minutes to get to my next class. I was not surprised when you said that we are going to be reading Shakespeare. I’m very excited to read Shakespeare, especially A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I’ve told my parents about it and at dinner we were trying to figure out who else read the book when they were in high school. I’ve also told them all about the chrome books we are going to be able to use. I’m really excited to use the chrome books. I have pretty much told my parents all about what we are doing right now, I can’t really think of anything I haven’t told them.

ReplyDeleteThe start of the school year for me has been fantastic! Everyone in the school is so nice and welcoming but the hallways can get a bit crowded, nevertheless I enjoy the feeling of actually experiencing that! All of my teachers have been amazing and funny. There is more homework than I expected but my actual prediction were all-nighters through out the whole year! The start of the school year has been quite, well awesome! With all the different people I meet and the secrets of St-Thomas slowly uncovering for me I think I will be enjoying the rest of the school year without a doubt. On to your second question. I haven’t really been telling my parents anything since they aren’t home most of the time but I do tell my aunt EVERYTHING! I don’t leave out anything and I usually ramble throughout the whole ride home about the day. They are usually filled with friendly words and stress filled thoughts. I don’t think I didn’t tell my aunt everything but my parents are another case. I usually just talk about school, friends, times, classes, you get it. It’s just that.
I though that I was going to stay up all night long doing homework. Great blog Emma!!!
DeleteI agree the halls can get crowded. There is an advantage to being some of the smallest in the school. You can just barely squeeze through. Great blog Emily!
DeleteSo far my high school experience is going really well. I've met a lot of new friends and teachers that i really like, and I've told my parents all about them. I also told my parents about all the work we did in class and how we are reading "A midsummer nights dream". Things I didn't tell my parents about were the times I was late for class, how I once forgot something in my locker or when I almost missed my bus. But I have a pretty good reason why all those things happened:)
ReplyDeletehaha! So far that bad luck didn't happen to me yet (thank god)because if I'd miss the bus i would probably be screwed, and about not telling your parents about those things,i would probably be guilty if that happened to me;) LOVED ur blog by the way
DeleteI also haven't told my parents about how I almost missed the bus but my reason probably isn't as good as yours (unless you call me being a slowpoke a good reason).
DeleteThe start of the year was pretty crazy from running from class to class, worrying about being late and remembering all of my material I din't know if I was going to make it through the first week. I though I was going to have endless homework from every teacher and have no sleep. After the first week I stated tot enjoy myself and make the best of school. I told my parents almost everything about school except that I was late for one class.

DeleteI had those same fears of high school from the start of august all the way to the third day of high school.
Great blog!
I was scared about the same things, but I was even more scared for day 2 with the whole school. My brother had told me that the halls were crowded. When i got there it was nowhere near to as crowded as I thought it was going to be. I actually found I had a good amount of space to move around.
DeleteWell, if your asking about last (said above) it was great being grade 6 and being king of the hill, but this year (2014-15) has been great so far.
ReplyDeleteHigh school so far has been amazing. It is so much different than elementary school. First of all we have so much more freedom to do what we want. We don't have teachers over our shoulders every second we do something, but we also have more responsibility. It's more fun to go to high school. The good thing is that we're not stuck in one classroom the whole entire day. You don't just have one teacher. You have 9.
My parents usually always ask about my day so I tell them everything there is to know. I tell about all the teachers and how much fun English class is. It's about the same as last year on how it would go. Just that I have much more to talk about because I'm going to a new school. I have new surroundings and stuff like that.
Last year*

ReplyDeleteSo far my high school experience has been no different from 6th grade. Homework, class work, teachers, other students, blocking out the teachers, just a normal day at school. Other than the extra 1000 students, 9 teachers, lockers, students being an entire foot taller than me, extra homework and what ever else, my start to high school has been great. What have I told my parents about high school, nothing. Or at least nothing of importance. Just who my teachers are.
At the beginning of the school year I told them almost everything about my day. I told them i was excited, all my teachers are nice and I never got lost on the first day. I actually knew the school really well! I said that elementary school was a HUGE difference compared to st.Thomas. Some of the things i said were: there's a lot of books to keep track of and bring to each class, the school is giant compared to my old school, I like the lockers. In my old school we used to have "hooks". What i also love is you move from class to class instead of staying in one class all day. But there is a couple other things I don't really like sometimes:the lock can get pretty annoying sometimes like if you're in a rush to get to your next class and you keep on messing up the combination you get frustrated , your bag gets so heavy from all the homework you have, and I don't like trying to find the bus after school, I always text my brother to ask where the bus is!

ReplyDeleteWell before school started I felt excited to start high school because it makes me feel all responsible telling people I am in high school. But then the first day of high school with all the people it just made me feel really awkward because everyone was with their friends and in some classes I was alone. As the days went I got more comfortable and everyone was polite to each other. Also one other thing is during the first days of school I use to carry all my books everywhere. For example after lunch I would lug around three binders with like textbooks and exercise books in them, fearing I would be late to class .Which just gave me a sore hand. Then I figured five minutes is enough time to get my books out of my locker and go to class. Now for the second question I have told my parents overall everything but I told my sister more. Like I told her about Midsummer Night’s Dream and she read in sec 2 she said and also I told her about the Chromebooks.
Madurra.$
And also I told my parents how we got Tim Bits in class because of the scavenger hunt we did.
DeleteMadurra.S
Wow, I told my parents almost the same things!
DeleteI still need to tell my parents about the tim bits!
DeleteGreat Blog! :)

The beginning of school year my first day I was scared there were so many more people then my elementary school. I didn't know where to go but in the next day or two I was a pro already and I hope to keep it that way. My mom bothers me about how I tell her nothing she wants to here about every subject and I was like nothing is happening but in English class I am already having a great experience. I told my mom about the cool Chromebooks , I told her that we are starting to read Shakespeare and last thing that I her about English was that my teacher is amazing why because Mr.Katz is funny, smart and he doesn't get mad. I knew already that he was a good

I'm really enjoying St. Thomas so far. At first I was nervous about not making friends, not getting to class on time and getting lost but by the third day those 'fears' were gone. I have told my mom about a lot of stuff such as which teachers I like and dislike, which classes are my favorites so far, the new friends I have made and the events that are coming up (Terry Fox walkathon, grade seven BBQ...). I have also told her about the upcoming tests, the tests I've already done, the projects I have gotten and the activities I am going to do/have already done in class. Basically I have told my mom almost everything about my few days at St. Thomas.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the school year, I told my parents that it is much different here that it is in a private school, however I told them that I was enjoying the freedom I have here and it changed for the good. I was not as nervous to go to high school like some other students, but I was excited. On the first day, I told my mom everything, from having 9 teachers to recognizing quite a few faces in St.Thomas. I also told them how happy I am being at St. Thomas and how I know that I will enjoy the next 5 years the best I can.

My year so far has been going much better than I expected. I thought I would have the hardest test and quizzes in the world, and that I would always be late and get detentions. I thought the teachers would be the most strict as possible. However they were not too strict, and I was not late after the first two days. I never got any detentions so far and nor were the tests so difficult. I have told my parents everything that has been happening in high school so far. I do not remember forgetting anything. In conclusion, these were my expectations towards high school.
ReplyDeleteOn the first day of school I was a bit nervous but then when I found out where all my classes were I was fine. So far I've told my parents pretty much everything that I've been doing. I told them about my first day of school and how it was really fun and exciting. On my second day of school it was a bit harder with all the other kids but I still made it. My first few weeks of school were really great.
ReplyDelete-Erin
I was also a bit nervous the first day but then I found my way around in time and was not as nervous. Good Job.
DeleteOn the first day of school, I had no idea where to go and where not to go. I was bumping into people left and right! It's been a very amusing time and I actually enjoy the stress from class to class because it makes school much more fun! -Except for the part about forgetting a book or being late!- I've told my parents everything that is needed to know about my school year. Maybe I left out some random un-important parts like fire drills because they aren't that interesting to talk about. It was cool meeting new friends and talking to new people and my mom was interested in that, so I talked to her about my new friends.

DeleteI was bumping into people too on the first day. That was something I was a little nervous about.
i was so nervous that someone would get mad at me!
DeleteHigh school has been better than I could have imagined. I mean sure the work load is a lot more and our school is kind of big but it still really cool to be experiencing this. My dad always asks how my day was and what did I do. I tell him everything. From the getting new homework to saying what I enjoyed in class. If I made new friends I tell him. I tell my dad everything he needs and wants to know. Oh! and don't worry I put in a good word for all of my teachers.

ReplyDeleteOn the first day of school, I walked into the school, and I was very nervous. It felt like I was the only one who knew their way around, probably because I have been to this school so many times before I started because of my sisters. My school year has been going very well so far. I got to meet new people, and make new friends. I honestly told my parents about everything that happened so far this year.
On the first day of school I was extremely nervous. I was nervous if I was going to get lost and a little intimated by the older kids. When I went to school on the first day I was nervous. When I finally I got home I was so excited for the second day. When I got home I told my parents about my day I told them about my teachers about my classes and about the assembly we had. I told them everything about my day before they could even ask the question how was my day? I told every single detail about my day without hesitating. So I honestly told them every thing about my amazing day at St. Thomas high school.
ReplyDeleteDaniel Carducci
So far the school year is going wonderfully. Everyone is kind, generous and willing to give a helping hand. It is a little over whelming but I am adapting well. I like my teachers. I was really nervous the night before, but when I got to my first class I felt comfortable. It has been a fantastic couple of weeks. I have been telling my parents a lot about the first couple of weeks of school. I have been telling my parents about my days in high school. I do not keep anything from my parents because what is there to hide.
ReplyDeleteI have been telling my parent about stuff like not having enough time to get from class to class or the super tiny hallways but I haven’t been telling my parents about all of my teachers. At St-Thomas I haven’t met any normal teacher. They all teach in a very original way. There’s a funny, crazy, weird, scary and awesome teachers but I like all of them
ReplyDeleteJacob Vallee
So far I've told my parent about things like my teachers and all the obstacles between class. I haven't told them about things like where I sit at lunch and the new friends that I have made, but that's not really important for them to know.
ReplyDeleteI think that my parents are involved in my school life a good amount, because it's not like they don't care and they don't ask so many questions that it is annoying.

ReplyDeleteOn the first day of high school I was very only because I really missed my friends from my elementary school, and I was afraid to make new friends, but I managed to do it. Everything going well (so far),all of my teachers are great, but the work is awful! at the moment I've only been late to class once, on the first day! I think I've told my parents pretty much everything about high school, the work, my teachers, new friends, etc. The movies are all lies (some movies) when it comes to bullies in high school! High school is so much fun but it also sucks because of all the work!
So far high schools been ok. Im liking it better than elementary for sure but we get a lot more responsibility with our homework and tests to study for. All my teachers have been great except for the homework. I've been late to one class and that was spanish because I had to do my opus card. I've been making new friends with people who were in my classes and close to my lockers. So high school's been pretty good and I hope I could keep up with everything
